Folsom Lake State Recreation Area
The lake and recreation area are located at the base of the Sierra foothills and offer a variety of activities, including hiking, biking, running, camping, picnicking, horseback riding, water-skiing, and boating. Perch, largemouth and smallmouth bass, and trout are available for fishing. Folsom Powerhouse (once known as the largest operative electrical plant on the American continent) provided Sacramento residents with electricity from 1885 to 1952. There is a 32-mile bicycle path that connects Folsom Lake with many parks in Rocklin before reaching Old Sacramento. There is also Lake Natoma, downstream of Folsom Lake, which is a popular place to sail, kayak, and participate in water activities.
In Folsom Lake SRA, regular day use hours apply to all areas except those listed below:

In Lake Natoma, non-motorized and slow-speed aquatic recreation is primarily promoted. Throughout the lake there is a 5-mph speed limit.

Location
In the Sierra-Nevada foothills, Folsom Lake State Recreation Area is easily accessible via I-80 or Highway 50, about 25 miles east of Sacramento. Lake Natoma and Folsom Lake are both accessible via a variety of entrances and access points. Located at the corner of Folsom Dam is the administration building.

Directions to the Peninsula campground:
80 east Reno
Leaving Auburn, take the Elm St. exit from Hwy 80, then make a left and at the next light make a left onto High Street. High St turns into Highway 49 and you will travel on Highway 49 for 10 miles towards Cool. The road will dead end into the campground in 9 miles as you enter the small town of Pilot Hill.
Hwy 50 S.Lake Tahoe
El Dorado Hills Blvd is located off Hwy 50. exit go north on El Dorado hills for about 10 miles (at some point the road changes names to Salmon Falls Rd.) you will enter the small town of Pilot Hill you will make a left on Rattlesnake Bar Rd. which dead ends onto the campground in 9 miles.
Camping at Beals Point can be reached by following these directions:
80 east Reno
On Hwy 80, take the Douglas Blvd exit. Roseville should be left behind. Turn right on Auburn-Folsom Rd after about 6 miles and go about 2 miles until you come to a stop light with the sign "Beals Point.".
Lake Tahoe, Hwy 50, lifeguard on boat
Take the Folsom Blvd. Exit and head north on Folsom for about 7 miles. You will come to a stop light with a sign saying Beals Point. Make a right here.
Transportation to the Park
Lake Natoma and Folsom Lake offer a variety of transportation options to park visitors. Local bus services can be utilized to reach Folsom Lake and Lake Natoma thanks to the park's urban setting and accessibility. In addition to private vehicles, bicycles, horseback, and foot travel are the most common ways to enter the park.
Visit Recommendations
It is during spring and summer that the recreation season occurs, when temperatures are in the 80s, 90s, and 100s.
April through September is the busiest time for visitors. As school continues in the spring, evenings and weekends are the peak times for lake activity.
Climate, Recommended Clothing
A hot and dry summer is common at Folsom Lake State Recreation Area. Avoid overexposure to the sun while dressing lightly for high temperatures.
Cold winters can bring long periods of fog in the central valley. It can get quite cold in the damp. Dress in layers to prevent this.
The spring and fall months offer warm days and cooler evenings and nights. Dress in layers.
For exploring the park trails, it is vital to wear good walking shoes. Beaches and boat ramps are best accessed with bare feet or sandals.
There are two picnic sites for groups at Granite Bay and Black Miners Bar
Two park entrances offer reservable group picnic sites at Folsom Lake State Recreation Area.
Two reservable group picnic sites are available at Granite Bay Main Beach in Rocklin, with easy access to Folsom Lake. It is possible to reserve a group picnic site during normal park hours throughout the year. Several picnic tables, a large BBQ station, flush toilets and water faucets are provided at each site that can accommodate up to 100 people.
The newly renovated Black Miners Bar day use area offers two reservable picnic sites just minutes from Lake Natoma, and both picnic sites are accessible from the parking lot. During normal park hours, group sites are available year-round. Up to 50 people can be accommodated per site with six picnic tables, large preparation and buffet tables, shade ramadas, large BBQ stations, trash and recycling containers, and flush toilets located nearby.
